How can a Christian rightly become a Child of God?

This post tried to clarify some of these major arguments among people: How to live as a child of God? Not everyone that calls the name of God is a child of God. Who is a child of God according to the bible? And what are expected of me as a child of God? How can a Christian rightly become a child of God?

We would like to start with knowing who a Christian is and how Christianity started. The name Christian was first mentioned in bible at the city of Antioch.  In Acts 11:26 “… And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.” Christianoi, “followers of the Christ.

How Christianity started:

The movement of Christianity was started by Jesus Christ of Nazareth in 1st-century Israel. It is a Spirit of God led movement.

The leader Jesus Christ came on earth and said He is Savior and started to do unusual signs and wonders with many miracles like raising a dead body that has been buried for about four days. These made many people to believe that He is truly the Son of God that will save people.

Religious leaders in his time began to lose followers as many began to understand God’s principles better as Jesus was demonstrating His teachings with proven results. These made many of religious leaders to hate Jesus and they plotted on how to kill Him.

What Made Christianity Unique

It is ONLY the Spirit of God through Jesus Christ that propels a Christian life. Without this Spirit of God in you, one cannot be and live a life of a Christian.

Christians are people that accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior and they are living their lives to please Him. God promised all of us including you that will believe in Jesus now His blessings here on earth with trials and we will inherit the Kingdom of God at the end of age. A Christian is a person who has allowed the Spirit of Christ to control his/her lifestyle. Any life that is ruled by Spirit of Jesus Christ is a Christian.

Common Mistake:

Many people all over the world see Christianity as a religion and so they approach Christianity with their religious background. Every other religion in the world measures their followers’ membership based on how much you can obey the rules. Religion is based on what human being can do for God to accept him/her, but Christianity is based on what the Savior (Christ Jesus) has done for His followers. That is, Jesus took away the punishment of His followers’ sins and qualify them to become children of God.

How can a Christian Rightly Become a Child of God?

I believe this question arose where one does not really know who a Christian is. A Christian is any person that lives a life that is propelled by the Spirit of God. Look at how Bible put it in Romans 8:14 “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons (children) of God.”

Bible also listed some lifestyles (characters) that only the Spirit of God will produce in a human being. These are the scale to weigh who is a Christian and who is not. Book of Galatians 5:22-23 said “But the Spirit (of God in any person) produces Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Humility, and Self-Control. There is no law against such things as these.”

And Jesus warns in Matthew 7: 15-16 “Beware of false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing (as a Christian), but inwardly they are ravenous wolves (not Christian). By their fruit (character) you will recognize them (who is a Christian and who is not). Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?”

Bible also outlines lifestyles (characters) that will prove to you that a person is not a Christian in Galatians 5:19-21. “When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: Sexual Immorality, Impurity, Lustful Pleasures, Idolatry, Sorcery, Hostility, Quarreling, Jealousy, Outbursts of Anger, Selfish Ambition, Dissension, Division, Envy, Drunkenness, Wild Parties, and other Sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.”

Bible clearly defined who a Christian is without missing a word and no human idea will change it. It is God’s movement that goes with God’s standard and gives no room for human alteration. See John 8:31.

Someone may say but there are people they know as Christian but they see them living the lifestyle that is not in line with bible. Some of them have titles and are popular with many works/ miracles in Jesus’ name.

Read how Jesus himself answered the question in Matthew 7:22-23 “Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you workers of lawlessness!’”

A Christian life is a sweet, joyful and peaceful life that requires patience. Everybody on earth is really searching for but many are searching for the life in a wrong direction.

The Christian life can only be gotten through Jesus and when you live a life of love, you remain a good Christian before God and men.

He said He is the resurrection and the life. John 11:25

Jesus said He will be killed and He will resurrect from death. Mark 9:30–32, Matthew 17:22–23

People witness His resurrection from death. John 20:1-20, Acts 1:2-6, Matthew 28:5-6

He said He came down from heaven.  John 6:38-39

Jesus said He is more than just a good man. Mark 10:17-18

He said I AM SINLESS. John 8:46

Jesus said that He is God. John 10:30-33

Jesus said He has power to forgive sins. Mark 2:5-7

Jesus says He is the ONLY way to heaven. John 14:6
